Our Story
Who are we?
Harvest Moon started in the mind of its founder, a city girl with farm girl dreams. On a trip to Burlington, VT from my home in New York City I had a delicious pear paste as part of a cheese plate at Mad River Distillery. I was disappointed to learn from the manager that while Sidehill Farm pear paste was available at the farmers market in the summer, he didn’t know where it could be purchased in the dead of winter when we were visiting.
What do we do?
We’re redefining what it means to shop at your local farmers market. Harvest Moon is a online nationwide farmers market connecting small, organic and family farms directly to consumers. Our growing community of certified small, organic and family farms are eager to serve you.
Why do we do it?
We believe that a healthy earth and healthy eating leads to a healthier you. We believe in human scale farming practices that work with nature, not against it. We believe in small farms who care about the conditions their animals are raised in, organic farmers who obsess over the quality of their soil, and in family farms for whom farming isn’t a lifestyle, it’s just life.
As the granddaughter of a small farmer from a town called Farmers Union, the American family farm is literally in my blood. A growing dismay over the disappearance of the small family farm inspired me to found Harvest Moon Farmers Market. Our mission is to rebuild the bond between Americans, the food they eat, and the small, organic and family farmers that produce that food.
